You ever wake up and think,

"Man, I’d love to lose $80,000 today?"

No?

Well, one Chicago landlord pulled it off...

He threatened to call ICE on his tenants.

And no, not the kind of ice your cousin sells out the back of a Waffle House at 3 AM.

The immigration folks.

Tenant didn't pay.

Landlord threatens to call 'em.

Then a judge hit him with an expensive reality check.

All thanks to the Immigrant Tenant Protection Act.

Under this, you can't:

Tell them to leave or you'll "make a call."

Actually make that call.

Or even hint that you might make the call.

Yes, even if they didn't pay rent!!

Here's the deal:

You can't threaten or report tenants’ immigration status to anyone.

So before you get creative with a tenant, better check with these hot shots.

A quick call can keep you from doing something stupid.
