The law loves kids
Feb 20, 2025Fair housing.
Boring? Yeah.
Important? Also yeah.
You're not out here running a no-tattoos, no funny last names kinda operation.
But fair housing rules?
Not always obvious.
Take kids.
You're fine with good kids.
But you don't want a gang of sugar-fueled banshees treating your rental like a theme park.
So you set a limit on how many kids can stay.
Maybe bump up the security deposit.
Trouble is, both are illegal.
Family status is a protect class.
You can't treat a family any different just because they roll deep.
Fair housing laws don't care if you're trying to protect your carpets.
Just if you're trying to mess with someone's rights to live there.

When it comes to fair housing, you better know the rules (or know someone who does).
